Wind moaned through the branches of trees long dead
And chilling tunes danced in the air
Dreams played in the shadows of night
And owls looked on with their unblinking stare
Whispers echoed through cobblestone streets
While death laughed with glee
The young girl walked alone in her pain
Friendless; worthless, it was plain to see
Her unbeating heart freezing
Really, she was just a shell
But through this night just like nights long past
She too, had a story to tell
Left to die at just one year of age
Others didnt seem to be real
Her dying wish deep in her thoughts
Was simply, and only to feel
Her puppet strings restrained her
She hadnt a dream to call her own
And even though she had her thoughts
In reality, she was always alone
She stretched her arms before her
Bloodied, bruised, and scarred
All she wanted was to disappear
But her prison always stayed barred
Broken and useless as she was
She surely would not be missed
But in her heart she had a spark of hope
That maybe, just maybe, shed be remembered by the flowers that she kissed
She walked through the day
And cried through each night
And to her surprise, when she looked up
The sun obscured her sight
She took a step forward and drew a breath
And met the blazing dawn
With a final sigh of misery
In a second, she was gone
Never missed; never known
Not even a simple name
Insignificant and worthless
When she was gone, this stayed quite the same
One memory is left though
The moment she met the dawn
Soulless eyes unseeing
And with that, she was gone.
